SEASIDE, OR – The 6th Annual Ducky Derby, sponsored by Clatsop Community Bank and KCRX – The Classic Rock Station, was held Saturday, June 8 in Seaside. The event raised $4487 for Seaside Kids, Inc. through sponsorships and duck sales. Net proceeds are slightly ahead of 2012 figures.

Clatsop Community Bank has been the title sponsor of the Ducky Derby since 2009, and in addition to sponsorship, the bank awards a $500 savings account to the winner of the race each year. This year’s winning duck belonged to Doug Barker of Seaside. Twenty-one other ducks also earned prizes for their owners.

“Our bank is proud to help make this event possible, especially given the impact it has on our local kids,” said Clatsop Community Bank President and CEO Joe Schulte. “I grew up here, and sports activities have always been a positive outlet for the youth in our community. We need to do everything we can to remove financial barriers that would otherwise keep some of our kids off the field. That’s what Seaside Kids is all about—making sure everyone who wants to participate is able to do so,” he explained.

Seaside Kids is a non-profit organization that raises money to provide free athletic programs for children in Seaside and Cannon Beach. It was organized more than 50 years ago and serves hundreds of local youth who participate in baseball, softball, football, golf and swimming programs at no charge. The group also provides scholarships that enable children to attend special tournaments. For more information, visit
