Seaside, OR—As part of local radio station KRKZ’s Charity of the Month promotion, a $500 check was presented to the Jason Goodding Memorial Foundation, thanks in part to a commercial sponsorship provided by Clatsop Community Bank.

The Foundation was established to honor Sargent Jason Goodding after he was killed in the line of duty in February 2016. It is funded in part by proceeds from an annual summer cornhole tournament held in Goodding’s memory. Steve Kuhl and Jeff Roberts, friends of Goodding, started the event as a fundraiser to provide $1000 scholarships to local students on a long-term basis. Since the inaugural tournament in 2016, the event committee has grown to include Paul Tice and Chief Dave Ham, and also enjoys assistance from two Seaside High School seniors as part of their Pacifica requirement.

The event itself has grown as well. The 2017 tournament expanded by 10 teams (just one team short of capacity), included a silent auction, and generated $20,000 in proceeds compared to $10,000 the year before. Organizers continue to accept donations toward their 2017 goal of $25,000.

“We’re so happy to be able to support this effort,” said Joe Schulte, Clatsop Community Bank president and CEO. “I can’t think of a better way to honor Sargent Goodding than by helping to advance the education and future of our local students.”
